Training Facilities

Smiley Bauhinia Racing is based at the prestigious Pakenham Racecourse complex, providing horses with access to a comprehensive range of world-class training and support facilities. These include multiple specially designed training tracks with varied surfaces and distances, alongside modern stable and rehabilitation amenities. This diversity enables tailored conditioning programs that enhance every horse’s health, strength, and race readiness.

Track Access

The training facilities at Pakenham offer a variety of surfaces and distances to suit all aspects of conditioning and recovery:

  • The grass training track, approximately 2400 meters in circumference, features a natural turf surface that closely replicates race-day conditions. Its forgiving nature helps horses build aerobic fitness, agility, and balance while minimizing joint stress.
  • The synthetic polytrack is an all-weather surface around 2000 meters long. It provides consistent footing in all weather, excellent cushioning, and injury prevention, making it ideal for training when the turf track is unsuitable.
  • Multiple sand tracks, ranging between 800 and 1600 meters, are available. These offer a low-impact surface that promotes cardiovascular endurance and stamina, with slow and fast variants suitable for both recovery and high-intensity workouts.
  • The uphill training track, a boomerang-shaped course roughly 1500 meters in length with a gradual 10-meter elevation gain, challenges horses to build muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness through hill work, enhancing overall athleticism.
  • A dedicated trotting track of 600 meters length and six meters width provides a safe environment for warm-ups, cool-downs, and light trotting exercises, helping horses loosen muscles before and after intense training.
